1st Grade fun

This week we reviewed the pyramid now that we have learned about all the 5 food groups. We talked about eating from the bottom of the pyramid and getting foods in their whole state. We read the Beastly feast and sampled the Black bean dip with vegetables and a cracker.

Today we learned about eating vegetables and the many colors vegetables can be. They are high in Vitamin A, which is good for our eyes, skin and hair. 1st Grade Fun

Funny face rice cakes were a breakfast hit this week. The first graders learned breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it can be anything to break the fast. We talked about our favorite breakfasts at home and trying to incorporate 3 food groups.

This week we learned that we need protein to keep our 650 muscles strong. We get protein from eating all kinds of meat. You can also get it from eating  peanut butter, nuts, eggs, tofu, and dried beans.

We spent the day being superheros, and talking about what makes us strong. Milk products are the best for our superheros because they contain calcium for strong bones and teeth. We sampled 4 different cheeses for our calcium today.

We are underway with Nutrition in the first grade. the first 2 weeks we have learned about making meal time more fun and manners. The second week we talked about how grains give us cargohydrates.

1st Grade fun

After making our motors run with grain foods for more energy. This week we focused on fruits and the importance of Vitamin C for our cuts and bruises and helping us when we are sick. We tasted a 3 fruit salad, then made up our own to send home to try.
